Annual Diabetic Retinopathy Screening Programme.

Screening for diabetic retinopathy can detect changes in the retina at an early stage, before you are aware of them. If detected in time, treatment is very effective at preventing loss of vision in the majority of people. It is therefore important to have your eyes screened and to attend all screening appointments. If you missed your appointment at the Health Centre please contact your optician for an appointment to get your eyes screened.

Pertussis Vaccine for Pregnant Women

There have been an increasing number of cases of pertussis reported in infants less than 3 months of age this year. Virtually all of these cases in young infants have been in babies born to mothers who did not receive the pertussis vaccine in pregnancy. Pertussis in the first three months of life is a severe and life threatening condition. Vaccination in pregnancy has been shown to be very effective in protecting the baby. If you are between 28 – 32 weeks pregnant please book an appointment with the practice nurse for vaccination.
